Former MDSM steelworker and amateur archaeologist Piet Bezuijen enjoyed nothing more than taking his bucket and spade around the waste grounds of Amsterdam and unearthing the hidden treasures of past lives that lay beneath. Simple everyday objects such as marbles, pottery shards, fragments of clay pipes and children's toys - many dating from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries were discovered. Sadly Piet Bezuijen passed away in 2007 leaving his finds to his wife from whom - on Queensday- a small bag was purchased by Zuiderziel owner and designer Paula van der Heijdt. Paula thought long and hard on how best to display these moving memories of centuries past - finally deciding to embed them in her own 'Zuiderziel Mix', creating 75 unique pieces of work.
